Irene M.   Luke (Dacyczyn)
Irene M. (Dacyczyn) Luke, 80, of Enfield, having spent her final days surrounded by her devoted family of which she loved deeply. Her final gesture of a mother’s love was to wait until she was alone to complete her final earthly journey on Friday February 19, 2016. Irene was the beloved wife of 55 years to the late David J. Luke, Jr. She was born on December 18, 1935 in South Deerfield, MA to the late Alec and Anna (Klemyk) Dacyczyn and had resided in Enfield for the past 62 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning and loved to share her homemade spaghetti sauce, soups, canned goods and her legendary Buck-eye balls with all. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, spending time especially with her grand and great-grandchildren, loved visits from the members of the Thompsonville Fire Department ; the boys; as she called them and was proud to tell you she mowed her own lawn. Irene was an avid UCONN ‘Huskies” women’s basketball (“My girls”) and Boston Red Sox fan. A strong willed person and fighter she battled lung cancer for three years.
She is survived by her loving children; David J. Luke, III and his wife Andrea of Enfield, Debra Florin and her husband Brian of East Granby, Robert Luke and his wife Rebecca of Enfield and Steven Luke and his wife Melissa of Merrimac, MA, her nine beloved grandchildren; David and Christopher Luke, Matthew and Thomas Florin, Amanda, Kimberly and Samantha Luke, and Amelia and Jacob Luke, also her six admired & cherished great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Ann Check of Lynn, MA and a brother Roman Dacyczyn of Sunderland, MA, along with many nieces and nephews. Irene was also predeceased by two brothers; Joseph and Walter and two sisters; Olga and Sophie.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Tuesday (Feb. 23, 2016) from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Feb. 24, 2016) with the procession forming at 9:00 am to St. Patrick Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Francis Hospital Foundation, Oncology Department 114 Woodland St. Hartford, CT 06105.
