Obituary for Donald S. Bushnell

Donald S.  Bushnell
Donald Stevens Bushnell, 88, of Somers passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018.
He was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Ellen T. (O’Connor) Bushnell and son of the late Harlow L. Bushnell and Doris B. (Pomeroy) Bushnell. Donald was born on December 29, 1929, in Hartford, CT and spent his youth in both Pine Meadow and New Hartford, CT until his parents ultimately moved to Sanbornton, NH. He graduated from Laconia, NH High School where he met his future wife, Ellen. Don and Ellen first made their home in Ellington, CT for many years and resided in Somers, CT for the past 41 years. Donald was employed for 45 years as a Machinist with the Mead/Westvaco (United States Envelope Company) in Rockville, CT and Springfield, MA. He served in the National Guard and was a Mason of the Doric Lodge # 20 of Tilton, NH since 1951. Don enjoyed many hobbies in his leisure time including gardening but especially loved vacationing along the seacoast of Maine. Don’s greatest joy was time spent with his family.
Donald is survived by his loving children, Steven J. Bushnell and wife, Julie, o Broad Brook, James L. Bushnell of Ellington, and Leslie A. Dolby and husband, Wayne M., of North Kingstown, RI; his cherished grandchildren, Steven M. Bushnell and wife, Jacqui, Jennifer Lynn Bushnell, Matthew V. Dolby and wife, Cassie, and Meagan L. Dolby; great-grandsons, Landon James Bushnell, Joseph W. Dolby and Declan R. Dolby; three step grandchildren Michelle, Lauren and Nicholas Sanchez; cousins Doris (Pomeroy) Violette of Zephyrhills, FL, Ron Pomeroy of Windsor Locks and Ruth (Pomeroy) Westervelt of East Granby, CT. Donald was predeceased by his daughter Barbara E. Bushnell (1989), an aunt Anna (Navaroli) Pomeroy Wright of Windsor Locks, CT, and two Uncles, Allen Pomeroy of Santa Monica, CA and Ralph Pomeroy of Windsor Locks, CT.
There are no calling hours and the family will have a private burial.
Donald and his family would like to thank The Suffield House and staff for the excellent care and kindness that they provided both Don and Ellen during their residency there.
