Obituary for John Paul Shlatz

John Paul  Shlatz
John Paul Shlatz passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Touch Points of Manchester. Born to Elarry & Helen (Yanek) Shlatz, on January 1, 1946 in Stafford Springs, he grew up helping his father on the farm raising potatoes, peaches, pears, blueberries and haying. He graduated Enfield H.S. in 1964 and left to go to a technical school in California for 2 yrs. Then joined the Army and faught in Vietnam from ’66 to ’68. He joined the Army National Guard until 1972 with an honorable discharge and then joined Westover Airforce Base and went to Desert Storm in 1990. He put in 25 years with the Service and retired from there.
He opened up Shlatz Package Store on Taylor Rd. in Enfield and stayed until his health deteriorated. John loved helicopters especially Huey’s and flying small planes. Avid hunter for deer and turkeys on his property. A NASCAR fan, he enjoyed Beach Boys and 50’s & 60’s music, westerns and dogs, especially his dog “Belle”, who was so attached to him. John was member of VFW Post 10219, American Legion Tanguay Magill Post 80, Enfield, Enfield Elks Lodge B.P.O.E 2222, D.A.V. Post 52, Vietnam Helicopter Crew Member Assoc. and the Veterans Council.
He leaves his wife Debra (Sidor) Shlatz of 45 yrs., of marriage, a daughter Carolyn Pascucci & husband Joseph, II of Houston, TX, and a son Kevin Shlatz & his wife Jessica of West Hartford, his grandchildren, Matteo & Liliana Pascucci of Houston, TX and Katherine & Elizabeth of West Hartford. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Elarry W. Shlatz.
John’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday Aug. 10, 2018 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Service at 11:00 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. Interment will then take place with military honors in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans) Enfield Chapter #52, 43 Pearl St. Enfield, CT 06082 or the Alzheimer’s Assoc. CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd., 4B Southington, CT 06489-1058.
