Obituary for Robert M. Massey

Robert M. Massey
Robert Massey, 80, of Enfield, entered into Heavenly Paradise on March 11, 2014.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1934 in Chicago, IL. Robert was a gift from God and a loving husband and father. Robert supported his wife and children in pursuing their education, goals and independence in life. He was very proud of each of his nine children’s pursuit of higher education and career paths. He was involved as a volunteer in youth sports, Holy Family religious programs, and also volunteered in the religious program at the Connecticut State Prison. He proudly served in the U.S. Army.
Robert was the beloved husband of Mary Massey for 55 years.
Robert’s life centered around his family. He believed life to be one of God’s greatest gifts. Robert’s children have had a pillar of strength to emulate.
Each of Robert’s children: Greg, Roberta, Chris, Gordon,
Mary Ann, Vince, Dawn and Rene will deeply miss their father. His son, Glenn, preceded Robert in death nearly 15 years ago. Robert also loved all of the many dogs he had throughout his life.
Robert was the recipient of a donated heart in 1992. He carried a young man’s heart for nearly 22 years and we are forever grateful to the donor family.
Robert graduated from Loyola University in Chicago. He was employed with The Hartford Insurance Company for his entire career in Chicago, IL and Hartford, CT.
Robert also leaves 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, sons and daughters- in–laws, and his dogs Maxine and Abby.
In lieu of flowers, we ask for your prayers. For anyone wishing to remember him through a donation, we suggest a dog rescue organization or donation to Hartford Hospital’s Cardiac Transplant Division, ATTN: Cardiac Transplant Development, 80 Seymour Street P.O. Box 5037 Hartford, CT 06102.
