It is with profound sadness that we share the news that our much loved and cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and son, Edward (Ed) Superson Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 17, 2020. Ed, who was born on May 17, 1952, was the son of Frances (Harris) Superson and the late Edward Superson Sr. A brother, John, predeceased him in 2019. In addition to his mother, Ed is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Susan (Sue) (Kosiorek) Superson, his children, Heather Wrisley (husband Shawn), and Jennifer Superson (husband Trevor Smith), and his grandchildren Ryan Wrisley, Ella Wrisley, and Luca Summers who will all miss him deeply. He is also survived by his siblings Christine Superson of South Deerfield, MA, Stephen Superson (wife Sharon) of Westerly, RI, Michael Superson of Southampton, MA, Cheryl Temple (husband Mark) of Bolton, MA, and nieces and nephews Katelyn Garvey (husband Greg, children Grace and Connor), Gary Kennedy, Sean Kennedy, Zachery Temple, Tricia Temple, Michaela Superson, and Shane Superson. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Ruth Kosiorek, and Sue’s cousins Linda Pikula (husband Michael Ghaemi), and Francis Pikula (wife Gail, son Eric).
Ed graduated from Holyoke Catholic High School in 1970, Holyoke Community College in 1972, and Framingham State College in 1974. He began his career as a teacher in the South Hadley School District, where he had a great rapport with both the teachers and students, and coached Middle School girls’ sports. He left the field of education in 1983 and had a long and accomplished career at MassMutual Life Insurance Company. There, he created and successfully oversaw the company’s first overseas claims processing division in Ireland from 1990-1992. He retired from MassMutual in 2006. After retiring he spent the next 14 years supporting his wife Sue in her many educational roles. During the past 4 years, Ed and Sue were partners in her painting adventures, Ed making all the frames for her canvases in his basement workshop.
Everyone who knew Ed described him as a generous, kind, loyal, and hard-working man who always put family above all else and made them laugh and smile with his dry sense of humor. He found peace and beauty sitting and being quiet with nature, listening to James Taylor, and loving animals, especially his Boxers. As a father he taught his daughters the meaning of generosity and strong, supportive love. Ed loved to garden and landscape, and people were always amazed by his green thumb. He also raised tropical fish and was an avid coin collector. His most joyous times were spent on the beaches of Michigan and Cape Cod, most especially in the summer of 2019 where he taught his grandchildren, Ryan and Ella, how to boogieboard. Ed was overjoyed to recently meet his precious new grandson, Luca.
We are all very saddened about Ed’s passing, and we invite family and friends to join us for a celebration of life get-together at The Yard Tavern in South Hadley, MA at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cape Cod National Seashore.
